STUDENTS WANTED: Hearings for English Corpus Linguistics and Quantitative Analysis, June 25th-26th

Are you interested in taking part in the process of selecting a new
professor at our department?
Are you interested in Corpus Linguistics and/or Quantitative Analysis and would like to get to know some experts in those fields?

If you are, we would like to invite you to participate in a selection
process for a new professor for English Corpus Linguistics and Quantitative Analysis.

For this, we need 10 to 15 students who would volunteer to participate in a two-day hearing process on the 25th and 26th of June.

The proceedings are as follows:
First, the candidates will give an academic lecture (approx. 30 minutes), followed by a fifteen-minute discussion. Then, the candidates will teach a trial class – with you, if you are interested. In this trial class, the candidates will give a brief lecture (approx. 20 minutes), followed by an interactive session with the students (approx. 20 minutes) and discussion with the candidates (approx. 20 minutes). We would need your feedback on these interactive sessions to report back to the committee afterwards.

The hearings will take place online via Big Blue Button on Moodle. If you would like to participate and ideally are free to virtually attend on both days, please fill in this link (https://www.termino.gv.at/meet/p/2e3dd92baad2a32ac108cdb143955aa9-32237) to register. Öh petition: #FLATTENTHEFEES – DEMANDS FOR RELIEVING STUDENTS

oeh_fb_flattenthefees_english

The current situation brings other drastic consequences for students, apart from struggles with „Distance Learning” – when in fact we need one thing more than anything else: security and certainty.
We need certainty, that we’re not going to lose any additional “tolerance semesters”.
We need to continue receiving our financial aids and grants.
We need our tuition fees to be refunded or forgiven.
This is not “just” about losing academic progress. We’re talking about students’ livelihoods!

Therefore, the Öh Uni Wien is sending out a petition to sign: There must not be any negative consequences for students!

THEY ARE DEMANDING THE FOLLOWING:

• an additional two “tolerance semesters” (at least)
• an adaption of the laws concerning students’ grants to make sure no one loses their grants
• an adaption of the laws concerning the duration of eligibility for financial aids, adding at least two semesters
• refunding the tuition fees for this semester, as well as forgiving them for the next semester (also for students from third countries)
• regulations for exams during the summer months, to ensure three dates per semester
• regulations for discontinued degrees in support of affected students
• no negative consequences, but privileges, for students who are now working as military or civilian servicepeople
• no negatives consequences for students from third states, especially regarding their residence permits

These measures are only the first step, but there is more to come. Corona surprised all of us. That’s why we need quick and effective solutions for the education sector. We’re ready to work with universities and politics!
You can support our mission. Sign our demands and share them using the hashtag #flattenthefees.

Sign the petition here.

Together we will fight for our rights!
